Book review.
Stephan Colbourn ‘Robin Hood’.
Macmillan readers. Pre- Intermediate.

Within the genre of adventure stories the storyline often features a trouble, which happens with some people. One of the best examples of this is a story “Robin Hood” by Stephan Colbourn.
Robin Hood came from a town called Locksley near Nottingham. He was born between the years 1160 and 1170 in the time of King Henry II. He did not care about the King’s laws. He hunted the King’s deer and robbed the King’s men. Then he gave the money to poor and needy people.
When King Henry died, his eldest son Richard became a King of England. But Richard did not spend much time in England. He went to Palestine to fight against Saladin, who was leader of the Muslim armies.
This book’s greatest strength is its characterization: heroes and heroines may seem larger than life but they are also deeply human. «Robin Hood» is a gripping story, because it will hold our attention right up to the final page. The book is most moving one at times, while at others it is immensely amazing.
The author tries to convey to us the ideas of good and evil, of greediness and envy, of the crime and the punishment. To my mind, the book is a real masterpiece.

All in all, I’d like to recommend it to people, who want good fun. According to me, I literally could not put it down! The book’s gripping plot and its characterization makes it one of my favourite detective stories. «Robin Hood» is a truly magnificent achievement from Stephen Colbourn.

Casino Royale
By Ian Flaming
Pre-intermediate level
«Casino Royale» is the first novel by Ian Fleming from the series about James Bond. No doubt I like anyone else not once heard about this spy novel. So it was the reason of my choice of this extremely fantastic book.
Meet – James Bond – fearless, brave, brilliant educated and of course handsome agent 007. Absolutely ruthless and flawless. This novel tells us about the confrontation between James Bond and the Russian spy, nicknamed Le Shiffr. The Bond’s aim is to beat him at the card table Casino Royale, a popular game of baccarat, the stakes are high as the risk of defeat, but Le Shiffr falls into bad luck, but luck favors the Bond. But not all, including Le Shiff like to play by the rules, and fascinated by the beauty of a charming girl-agent, Bond gets into a trap from which he thinks there is no exit.
No doubt my favorite character is James Bond. He has a lot of good features: courage, the ability to be cunning and to win in every situation, even there is almost no chance to be the winner. The apparent simplicity of the plot did not prevent Fleming to create an exciting affair, but the most important advantage of the "Casino Royale" is not even that. The main character, invincible agent James Bond became this key to success.
"Casino Royale" is read throughout the world and until now republished. All this is evidence
that the author is perfectly aware that it is necessary to the reader, and most importantly -know how he can give it.

Daisy Miller
By Henry James
Pre-intermediate level
Daisy Miller is one of the most eye-opener and amazing novels by Henry James. The title of the book really aroused my curiosity. To tell the truth I did not read this book later but I knew the plot of it. So I was interested in it.
Within the genre of the novel, the storyline often features a young person in search of his or her identity and place in adult world. The story features the courtship of the beautiful American girl Daisy Miller by Winterbourne, a more sophisticated compatriot of hers.
The plot is very unpredictable, because you can not guess what will be then. I think it is one of the book’s greatest strengths. The other strong point of the book is its personality of its narrator. No doubt the story has a strong moral message: it teaches us not to be so silly as she, I hope you will understand what I am talking about if you read the book.
The main character is Daisy Miller, a young girl of my age. She is young still and she just does not understand anything about love.
All in all «Daisy Miller» is certainly worth reading. I really believe Daisy Miller was an immediate and widespread popular success for James Henry.

Dracula
By Bram Stoker
Pre-intermediate level
Dracula is an 1897 novel by Irish author Bram Stoker, featuring as its primary antagonist the vampire Count Dracula.
The type of the book is horror novel. The scene is set in London. Lawyer Jonathan Harker goes to Dracula's castle to draw up the documents of property in London, but falls into the trap.
Bram Stoker was not the first writer who made the vampire hero of his works, the novel has had an exceptional influence on the folding and promotion of "the vampire myth" and has become the most complete description of the vampire in popular literature up to 20th century. Believe me that the book deserves your attention as it is really stunning.
This book was such successful that many people created lots of different movies and cartoons by this text.
On balance I would like to say that «Dracula» is a really fantastic story with gripping and thrilling plot, that made me read the text all day long. You have to read it as I highly recommend it to you if you want to have good time. So do not miss time!
